Batticaloa Fort & Lagoon

A compact Portuguese fort of 1628, taken by the Dutch and still substantially intact, sitting on a spit between the lagoon and the sea. The lagoon behind it is 56 km long and the town's whole life happens on it — fishing, ferries, and the bridge crossings at dusk.
