Honeymoon
Sri Lanka suits a honeymoon better than its reputation suggests. A single trip can hold colonial tea-planter bungalows in the hills, a private beach stretch on the south coast, and a morning watching leopards — all within a few hours' drive of each other. Nothing needs an internal flight, which means less of the honeymoon spent in transit.
The part worth getting right is the rhythm. Trips that try to see everything leave couples exhausted, so these routes favour two- and three-night stays, later starts, and a driver who disappears once you have arrived. Because pricing is per vehicle rather than per person, a couple travelling alone is not penalised for it.
Nuwara Eliya and Ella are cool enough for a fire in the evening, and the old planters' bungalows above the estates are among the most characterful stays in the country.
