Misty Valleys and Coral Reefs

Arrive at Bandaranaike International Airport and make the short transfer to nearby Negombo, a charming fishing town just minutes from the airport. Take a relaxed boat tour of Negombo Lagoon, where mangroves and waterbirds offer a peaceful introduction to Sri Lanka, before an early night to recover from your flight.

Drive north into the Cultural Triangle. Begin with an authentic Dambulla village tour, sampling rural life and a home-cooked Sri Lankan meal. In the late afternoon, hike up Pidurangala Rock for one of the most rewarding sunset views on the island, with the iconic Sigiriya rising dramatically in the distance.

Climb into the misty highlands to Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka's "Little England." Hike across the windswept moors of Horton Plains National Park to the dramatic cliff edge of World's End, then enjoy an afternoon at leisure exploring the colonial-era town and its tea-clad surroundings.

Take the famously scenic train ride from Nuwara Eliya to Ella, widely considered one of the world's most beautiful rail journeys. On arrival, hike to the top of Little Adam's Peak for sweeping views of the surrounding hills, before settling in to your hill-country hotel for the night.

Spend a second day exploring Ella's lush tea country. Hike the scenic Pekoe Trail Stage 16 through plantations and forest paths, then take a guided tour of a working tea factory to see how Ceylon tea is plucked, withered, and processed into the world-famous brew.

Descend from the highlands toward the southern dry zone. Visit the seaside Kirinda Temple, perched dramatically above the Indian Ocean, before an exhilarating afternoon jeep safari in Yala National Park, renowned for the world's highest density of leopards.

Travel west along the southern coast to Mirissa. Snap photos at the iconic Coconut Tree Hill, then head to Weligama Bay to watch surfers and stilt fishermen, with the option of a beginner surf lesson. Spend the rest of the day relaxing on Mirissa's golden sands.
