Jungle Beach & Japanese Peace Pagoda

A pair of small coves tucked under the Rumassala headland, reached on foot through forest and with better snorkelling than anything at Unawatuna. Above them stands the white Japanese Peace Pagoda, looking straight down the coast. In the Ramayana, Rumassala is a fragment of the Himalayan peak Hanuman carried back for healing herbs — and the hill's unusual medicinal plants are still cited as evidence.
