Kanniya Hot Springs

Kanniya Hot Springs, located approximately 8 km from Trincomalee in Sri Lanka's Eastern Province, is a unique archaeological site featuring seven square-shaped wells filled with naturally heated water. Each well is about 3 to 4 feet deep, and the water temperature varies slightly between them, offering a distinctive experience for visitors. The springs are believed to have been created during the reign of King Ravana, as per local folklore, and are associated with Hindu rituals dedicated to lost loved ones . The site also contains remnants of ancient Buddhist structures, including a stupa mound and inscriptions dating back to the 1st–2nd centuries A.D., highlighting its historical and cultural significance . Recognized as an archaeological protected monument since 2011, Kanniya Hot Springs offers visitors a glimpse into Sri Lanka's rich heritage and natural wonders.
