Kelaniya Raja Maha Vihara

Sri Lanka's most important temple outside the Cultural Triangle, on the site where the Buddha is believed to have preached on his third visit to the island. The interior murals by Solias Mendis are the finest 20th-century Buddhist painting in the country. In the Ramayana tradition this is also Vibhishana's seat after Ravana's defeat, one of the few places where both narratives are told in the same room.
