Sasseruwa (Reswehera) Buddha

An unfinished 11-metre Buddha in a rock face 11 km from Aukana, and the subject of the island's best-loved craftsmen's story: master and apprentice raced to carve a colossus, the apprentice's stone cracked, and he abandoned it where it stands. Rougher, sadder and far more atmospheric than its polished sibling.
