Somawathiya National Park

Mahaweli floodplain grassland with a large elephant population and almost no tourist traffic, wrapped around a stupa said to enshrine a tooth relic. Access is seasonal and the tracks are rough — which is exactly why it feels like the parks did thirty years ago.
