Wildlife & Safari
Sri Lanka packs an improbable amount of wildlife into an island you can cross in a day. Yala has one of the highest leopard densities anywhere in the world, Udawalawe delivers wild elephants with near-certainty year round, and between November and April blue whales pass close enough to the south coast that boats reach them within the hour. Very few destinations let you see a leopard and the largest animal that has ever lived in the same week.
Because the parks sit far apart — Wilpattu in the northwest, Yala and Udawalawe in the south, Minneriya in the centre — a private vehicle and driver is what makes a wildlife trip work. Safari jeeps are booked separately at each park and paid at the gate; your Tourify price covers getting you there, where you stay, and a driver who knows which entrance gets you in before the queue.
Block 1 has the densest leopard population on record. Early morning drives give the best odds, and your driver can have you at the gate before it opens.
Udawalawe is close to a guarantee in any season. From roughly July to October the Gathering at Minneriya draws hundreds of elephants to the receding reservoir.
Blue whales off Mirissa from November to April, and Sinharaja rainforest for endemic species you will not see anywhere else on earth.
Every plan is a starting point — change the route, the vehicle and the stays, and watch the price update as you go.
